Thank You BOE...

This coming week marks the week where we celebrate and recognize our Board of Education during the statewide Board of Education Recognition Week. Those of us who have committed our careers to education know that being a member of the Board of Education is oftentimes a thankless job. On top of their own busy lives, Board members put in countless hours of meetings, conversations, research, and visits to help ensure that our children are provided with the best resources, facilities, and opportunities possible. The compensation for being a Board member comes in the form of student smiles, "thank you's" from us, and a general pride in working toward a greater cause. With the constant onslaught of State and Federal mandates (absent everything related to COVID throughout the last 18 months), the concept of remaining focused on learning and children is becoming increasingly difficult for most Boards. Yet through it all, they find a way to remain focused on improving the opportunities and experiences for our children. So when you see a Board member this week, make sure you take that extra moment to say "thank you." Or maybe send them a note of thanks or invite them to your room/building. Regardless of how you do it, taking the time to show that you recognize what they do on an ongoing basis would be appreciated. On behalf of the entire Rome City School District (students and staff), I would like to say "thank you" for the work you have done, and continue to do to help our community provide a solid education for all!!

AREA Community Conversation

Throughout the year, the Rome City School District will be hosting a series of community conversations to learn more about the needs and desires of our students and community in the area of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The conversations will be held monthly in various locations throughout the district and our second event will be this coming Tuesday evening, October 19 at Strough Middle School. The session will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. For more information, including pre-registering your participation, please visit our website at: https://www.romecsd.org/news_page/you_re_invited__area_community_conversations_

Trunk or Treat

Trunk or Treat is all about safe, family fun and oh, lots of candy! It's a holiday-themed community tailgate party and it's completely free. Expect bouncy castles, games, prize giveaways and candy. Plan on dropping by Redeemer Rome between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. on October 31 for this event. For more information, please view the event flyer here: https://app.peachjar.com/flyers/2151823/districts/32521.

Athletics Ticketing

Section III Athletics and HomeTown Ticketing have announced a partnership that makes it easy for fans to purchase tickets ahead of game time on either the Section III website or in the HomeTown Fan App. They will be using this ticketing platform for all post-season events this year, and we will not be accepting cash at the gate for any post-season event tickets. Fans that purchase tickets on the Section III website will receive their tickets via email. These can either be displayed at the gate on a digital device or printed and brought as paper tickets. Tickets purchased in the HomeTown Fan App are stored directly in the app and can be accessed there for scanning at the gate. All tickets must be scanned at the gate for entry to an event. For more information, please visit the Section III website at https://section3.org/index.aspx.

Calendar Updates

As a reminder, the District is making a few adjustments to the calendar to maximize future in-person learning days. First, our planned remote days on October 21, November 12, December 10, January 28, February 16, March 17, April 8, and May 27 have been changed to regular school days. Also, due to the emergency closure of Staley to start the year, please be reminded that Conference days on October 22 and March 18 have been canceled and will also be full instructional days to make up for two of our closure days in September. Both of these adjustments should assist with maximizing in-person learning for the remainder of the year. Please adjust your calendars accordingly and we will continue to provide reminders throughout the year.
